Terrace Waterproofing System
Stop monsoon leaks. Reduce roof temperature by 5–8°C. 10+ year durability.
The Problem: Why Terraces Fail
Every Monsoon, Your Terrace Leaks
Water stains on the ceiling. Top floor smells damp. Repainting doesn't help. Within 2–3 years, you're spending ₹50,000+ on repairs.
Root Causes of Terrace Failure
- Concrete cracks — Microscopic cracks expand with temperature changes. Water finds them.
- No adhesion layer — Previous paint peels off because there's no bonding primer.
- Poor drainage — Standing water seeps through cracks and construction joints.
- UV degradation — Sun breaks down unprotected coatings from the inside out.
- Thermal cycling — Daily heat cycles crack the surface. Monsoon rains penetrate.
Most contractors apply one coat of paint. It lasts 18–24 months. They return. You pay again. The cycle repeats.

Application Timeline
Surface Preparation
Power wash, remove loose coating, fill cracks, allow drying. Inspect for structural issues.
⏱ 2–4 hours per 1,000 m²
Primer Application (SBR-50)
Apply SBR-50 at 150–200 g/m² using roller or spray. Single coat covers adhesion and stabilises cracks.
⏱ 3–5 hrs per 1,000 m² · Cure: 4–6 hrs
Membrane Coat 1 (Elastomeric)
Apply first coat. Roll carefully for even coverage — no thin spots.
⏱ 4–6 hrs per 1,000 m² · Cure: 24 hrs
Membrane Coat 2 (Elastomeric)
Apply second coat perpendicular to the first. Total membrane thickness: 0.8–1.0 mm. Full waterproofing achieved.
⏱ 4–6 hrs per 1,000 m² · Cure: 24–48 hrs
Topcoat Coat 1 (CoolCoat)
Apply first coat of CoolCoat. Reflective particles provide UV protection and heat reflection.
⏱ 3–4 hrs per 1,000 m² · Cure: 8 hrs
Topcoat Coat 2 (CoolCoat)
Final coat for colour uniformity and maximum UV protection. Ready for light foot traffic.
⏱ 3–4 hrs per 1,000 m² · Full cure: 12 hrs
✓ Inspection & Handover
Walk terrace, check for defects, test water runoff. System ready for monsoon. 10-year warranty begins.
Project complete in 7–8 days
Detailed Application Guide
Preparation (Critical — Don't Skip)
- Power wash — Remove all dust, algae, loose coating. Concrete must be clean.
- Crack repair — Fill cracks wider than 1 mm with concrete filler. Allow 24 hrs to cure.
- Surface inspection — Look for active seepage. Mark problem areas before applying.
- Moisture check — Test with calcium carbide. Concrete should be <4% moisture.
- Temperature — Apply only between 15–30°C. Avoid rain for 48 hrs after application.
SBR-50 Primer Application
- Mix SBR-50 thoroughly. Follow product ratio (usually 1:1 by volume for 2K version).
- Apply with roller (preferred) or spray in one uniform coat.
- Coverage: 150–200 g/m². Don't apply too thick — causes poor adhesion.
- Look for consistent light-grey coverage. No bare spots.
- Cure time: 4–6 hours before next coat. Cooler temperatures = slower cure.
Elastomeric Membrane Application
- Apply 24 hours after primer cures (or as per TDS instructions).
- Use consistent coverage: 1.5–2.0 kg/m² per coat. Verify by weighing application.
- First coat: Roll north–south. Second coat: Roll east–west. Creates better coverage.
- Common mistake: Applying too thin to save cost. Thin coatings fail in monsoon.
- Cure: 24–48 hours between coats. Don't walk on membrane before full cure.
CoolCoat Topcoat Application
- Apply 24–48 hours after final membrane coat.
- Same coverage: 1.5–2.0 kg/m² per coat.
- First coat appears translucent. Second coat becomes opaque white.
- Key point: Second coat ensures uniform reflection and full UV protection.
- Full cure: 12 hours minimum before foot traffic. 7 days before heavy use.

Why Hardex Wins in South India
- Monsoon resilience — Heavy rains test weak adhesion. Primer + membrane stops seepage competitors can't.
- Heat load — South India summers reach 42°C. CoolCoat's reflectivity reduces AC load and saves electricity.
- Long-term cost — Paint fails every 18 months. Repair cost exceeds system cost within 2 years.
- Local support — Hardex has dealer distribution across Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply this during monsoon season?
No. Concrete must be <4% moisture. Apply before monsoon (March–May) or during dry season (October–December).
What if my terrace is actively leaking right now?
Stop the source first. Hardproof INJ PU injection grout can plug active leaks in hours. Apply the full system after drying.
How do I verify the contractor applied correct coverage?
Each litre of SBR-50 covers 5–6.5 m². Each litre of membrane covers 0.5–0.7 m². Verify by weighing application with a scale.
Does the system work on old concrete with existing cracks?
Yes. Primer and membrane accommodate micro-cracks up to 1 mm. Wider cracks need filler first. SBR-50 stabilises cracks during cure.
What is the warranty?
10 years against material defect. If applied per specification and maintained, the system prevents seepage.
Can I paint over CoolCoat later?
Yes. After 7 days, CoolCoat accepts a topcoat application if needed — though it's rarely necessary.
